KRA officially launches KRA M-Service app to ease access to various taxpayer services

The Kenya Revenue Authority has officially unveiled its M-service app aimed at making it easier for Kenyans to access various taxpayer services from the authority.  Taxpayers are now able to access vital services such as filing of returns, payment of taxes as well as taxpayer registration and verification right on their mobile devices.

Kenyans have in the past faced a number of issues when accessing these services which had led to many failing to file their tax returns on time thereby incurring a lot of expenses in penalties. Payment for various taxes has also been a major problem and the current circumstances don’t help either, Kenyans had mostly resorted to visiting KRA offices to iron out these issues which were often over crowded due to increased demand of services especially towards the end of financial year.

Speaking to the media, KRA noted in a statement that the app was supposed to make it easier for Kenyans seeking to make tax transactions as well as compliance. The app dubbed KRA M-Service will equally reduce costs as taxpayers will not have to go through intermediaries as was the case before.

On top of the expected benefits, by using KRA M-Service, the authority is expected to have a wider reach to taxpayer’s and consequently increase its revenue collection which had been severely impacted by current circumstances.

Services available through KRA M-Service app

The app is expected to be vital for members in the informal sector who cannot access a computer to do necessary activities related to their taxes.

How to access and use KRA M-Service app

  • Head over to your respective app store; Google play for android and App Store for iPhones
  • Then search for “KRA M-Service”
  • Tap on download once located
  • Register or login to start using the app

MPESA Menu is now available by dialing *334# on your Safaricom mobile phone

Safaricom customers can now access MPESA menu on their devices by dialing *334#, this comes after the telco enabled the functionality following limitations faced by subscribers without a smartphone to utilize some services only available via the MySafaricom app. The service will therefore allow subscribers without a smartphone to access services that were previously only available via the app on their feature devices.

The move to consolidate all MPESA services via a USSD function was informed by lack of enough merit to achieve the same purpose via SIM Toolkit menu. It’s therefore easier for Kabambe users and even those with a smartphone to utilize USSD option without needing an internet connection for that matter. The new menu makes it easier for customers to send money to the correct recipient by displaying the receiver’s name and only advancing once the customer confirms the transaction.

Speaking on the unveiling, Safaricom’s CEO Peter Ndegwa said the telco had embarked on a mission to simplify services offered by providing a clear and efficient way to access them. Ndegwa further said MPESA on *334# was part of the telco’s strategy in refining how customers interacted with the service.

How to access MPESA Menu via USSD Code;

Subscribers can simply dial *334# on their phones upon which they will be presented with a choice of different M-PESA services including “Send Money”, “Loans and Savings” or “Lipa Na M-PESA”. As with other USSD menus, customers will key in the number selecting the service such as “5” for Lipa Na M-PESA.

Additionally, using MPESA via *334# will consolidate all services that were previously offered through different USSDs, saving customers from the need to remember a number of USSD codes for doing various functions on their devices.

MPESA users can access various features such as selecting Pay Bill and Till number options for Banks, Government and County Government Services, and Transport services including the SGR and long-distance buses. Once a customer selects any of the options, they will be presented with a list of services which can then be paid normally via Lipa Na M-PESA. MPESA Global is also available via the short code.

The HP 24f 23.8-inch Ultra-slim FHD IPS Monitor just seems right for those working from home

While I’ve been enjoying working from home, bonding with family especially my little one who got to see me quite often, something was not quite right. I had transitioned to working from home, at least until everything goes back to normal but some minor aspects of office space I must say were dearly missed for the duration. To be precise, as a programmer, I used to hook an eternal monitor to my laptop for the extra real-estate and it was quite convenient – in particular my ultra slim 23.8inch HP 24f.

Most tech firms have announced initiatives to keep staff working from home until at least we’re done with 2020 – heck of a year! And while it all seems rosy, I must point out, for you to effectively adapt your living room into a working space, some measures have to be taken. In my case, I had to bring my lovely computer monitor home to feel like office and I’ve decided to share my experiences with the HP 24f 23.8inch ultra slim FHD monitor that I now cherish quite a lot.

Quite an awesome ultra-slim design

Talking of computer monitors, one aspect that somehow contributed to their down-spiral use was ultimately their bulkiness. It’s hard to put up with something so huge, especially in our tiny cubicles except for those who have enormous office space. But for this particular model, I was surprised how it eventually blended in my living room and we forgot it was even there after sometime.

IPS Panel

My work laptop has the ordinary TNT panel, you’d be sad looking at it, especially after seeing what OLED and IPS panels were offering. Blacks are something else, thanks to the monitor’s IPS technology. And talking of glare, or color shift, its one area the panel excels every time I’m working on a project that really needs spot-on colors.

FHD Resolution

Resolution wasn’t my favorite aspect on this panel, it’s obviously grainy and some might even consider smaller screens friendlier on their eyes. But of course, this all depends on the type of content you’re consuming. In my case, I really didn’t need dense pixels for my work, I’d assume for a video editor or an architect, things would be swaying in the opposite direction. But for those who need a higher resolution, there’s a 4K model.

Conclusion

While portable laptops have almost everything we need to work from home, there are aspects of working in a real office environment we ought to carry home for a complete work environment. And if a computer monitor is something you could use, then the HP ultra-slim 24f definitely has stood the test of time and might be just what you need to increase your overall productivity.

Price in Kenya: Ksh. 25,000

Xiaomi starts selling Redmi 9c with a 6.53inch HD+ display in Kenya from Ksh.10,999

Xiaomi has so far been my best bet when it comes to affordable smart devices that offers well beyond their price point and the latest Xiaomi Redmi 9c is no different. While the Redmi 9c will not impress everyone, it definitely has its eyes set on a specific niche that would appreciate what they’ll be getting at a sub Ksh.15,000 price point.

A 6.53inch HD+ panel is worth trying out for the price point

I’ve always been a fan of high-res panels; in fact, this has been my number one core feature shadowing any other aspect of a smartphone. We don’t really get what I’d call award-worth panel on this device, but given the price-point, I’m a bit forgiving and most of us would find the respective panel usable. On the brighter-side, at least we get a large 6.53inch real-estate that would do justice for content consumption and a 720×1600 pixels resolution is way above what we’re officially supposed to call HD.

A large 5000mAh battery should last till end of the day

The first time I had a serious look at what Xiaomi was offering with the 9c, it was so obvious the company had emphasized more on the battery life than anything else. We loved seeing a top-tier spec trickle down in a budget device, and those of us who put reliability of their phone’s battery life beyond anything else should rejoice in this handset.

Internal Storage and RAM

When it comes to the Xiaomi 9c’s memory matters, the company is offering two options at almost similar price point. There’s one with 2GB RAM and 32GB internal storage that’s going for Ksh. 10,999 and another one with 3GB RAM and 64GB internal storage going for Ksh. 12,599. Looking at both options, I highly recommend topping up the difference and instead get the 3GB, 64GB model. Performance will be better thanks to a 1Gig more RAM and you could definitely use the extra storage.

Cameras

There’s a single 5MP selfie camera on the front and a triple-camera setup at the back consisting of 13MP primary sensor, 2MP Macro and 2MP depth sensor.

Xbox Series S is now official here is what you need to know and price in Kenya

We are just getting over the hype and momentum that was partly propelled by the tech world when it comes to the Sony’s next PlayStation model – the PS5, and now Microsoft looks determined than ever to bring us the best possible alternative to Sony’s offering – the Xbox Series S. we already have an idea on what to expect come November 10, the expected launch of the device and this is mostly from credible leaks we’ve seen so far.

The PS has a commendable following here in Kenya and it’ll be interesting to see what Microsoft comes up with, considering some gaming fanatics weren’t so impressed with the next PS design especially the digital only that doesn’t have an inbuilt DVD drive. Through the Xbox twitter handle, Microsoft just made Xbox Series S official complementing leaked details posted online by Thurrott and comes with a price point many of us would find Ideal in comparison with the Sony’s offering.

From the official images, we should expect a white console that closely resembles the Xbox one S, the same way series X compares with the One X. The next Xbox Series S matches the One S design in vertical orientation with a rotated Xbox logo.

Other somewhat credible leaks from WalkingCat, depicted in a video indicate that Xbox Series S would be a lot thinner making it a perfect candidate to fit under many TV’s. one missing component from the leaks so far is a hard drive – more like what we’ll be getting on the digital edition of PS5.

The Series S is expected to cost anywhere between Ksh. 30,000 and Ksh.40,000, a price range that mimic the PS4 and is almost half that of the next PS. We expect a much beefed-up GPU performance way above what we’re getting with the One X and it’ll be a matter of waiting to see titles supported in 4k resolution when unveiled.
