The Dawn of a New Type of Arcade

If you are over the age of 30, you probably have some very fond memories of video arcades. There really was nothing better than grabbing as many quarters as you could find (or asking your parents for some loot) and heading down to the arcade. And while there may have only been 20 or 30 different games, back then it felt like a thousand, and there just never was enough time (or quarters) to play everything. Arcades still exist in some places—primarily meant for nostalgic hipsters, it seems—but their glory days are long over. However, just like you don’t need video stores to rent movies anymore, you do not need an actual arcade to enjoy these types of games. Of course, you can play video games on consoles to get your fill. If you were an avid arcade fan, chances are you had a Nintendo, Sega, or some other system back then, too. But if you long for those days of yore, you may be able to create a mini-arcade in your very own home. This piece discusses the Polycade, a wall-mounted console that could play thousands of classic video games. The system is created by the son of the founder of Atari and is expected to start shipping in early 2016. If actual systems aren’t for you or you’ve outgrown them, you still have a ton of other options. No matter which type of game you’re into, you can find it for your computer or mobile device.

The Weird, Wild, and Wacky of Mobile Games

While you may play a handful of mobile games, there are tons you might want to check out, and many of them are pretty strange. Ever wondered what it would be like to be a huge pizza? There’s a mobile game called Pizza Vs. Skeletons that lets you play a pizza that rolls around crushing skeletons. What about a bear driving a car? In Enviro-Bear 2010, you take control of a bear who’s behind the wheel and trying to get back to his cave. Along the way, he has to fend off badgers and grab some salmon. For more bizarre stuff, check out this post. Let’s say you like plants and you also like zombies. You can find games featuring plants and others featuring zombies. But is it possible to get them together? Of course it is. In Plants Vs. Zombies, you use plants in an attempt to keep zombies at bay. The game has already produced two sequels: Plants Vs. Zombies 2 and Garden Warfare. The latter has been so popular, that a sequel is already in the works, according to this article. If you can’t wait for that one to come out, you can head on over to this arcade site. There, you will find a different version of Plants Vs. Zombies. While it’s not quite the same as the original, it does offer an interesting, different twist on the concept of fighting off the undead. Also, it comes with the chance of winning prizes if you’re lucky enough. Arcades are certainly fun, but who needs to go out when you can access as many games as you want with the touch of a button?

How to Top-Up other/different safaricom line using Voucher Via USSD Code

Have you ever wanted to load a different Safaricom line with airtime other than the one you are using? There is a very simple way of doing this via a USSD Code command. All you need is an unused Safaricom scratch card and your phone. The process is very similar to how you’d usually load your line with a few additions that include recipient’s mobile number. The closest alternative is commonly termed as “Sambaza”; however as we’ve come to realize, it has so many limitations including but not limited to your minimum balance. In addition, you may need to bypass your own number to avoid the credit amount being automatically deducted on some of your subscriptions such as SMS, Data bundles e.t.c.

Commonly known as “indirect top-up”, below is how you can load someone else line with airtime using your phone.

  • Make sure you have unused Scratch Card
  • On your Safaricom phone, dial *141*12-digit scratch card PIN you want to top-up*Mobile number you want to top-up#
  • Example: *141*123456789012*0722000000#
  • Press “OK/Call Button”
  • You’ll both receive a notification confirming the top-up.

Multichoice Kenya Cuts DStv Decoder Installation Costs by 50 Percent in a Campaign dubbed “Drop the Rest, Get the Best”

Kenyans hoping to get pay TV subscriptions from Multichoice will now be able to do so at half the initial cost. From the initial Ksh. 11,000 required to get a set of High-Definition DStv decoder, satellite dish, cable and installation charges, new customers will now get the same service at Ksh. 5,500. Existing customers may also take this advantage to upgrade their existing decoders to those that support HD signals.

Speaking on the Campaign, Mr. Chiruyi – said the company had invested hugely in providing quality content for its customers adding that the price cuts were an opportunity for new subscribers to join the bandwagon. Subscribers can get the full kit, HD decoder plus installation for only Ksh. 5,500 and choose a monthly bouquet of their choice, he added.

Regarding the bouquets, subscribers can choose from a DStv Access at Ksh. 6,550 – including a DStv decoder set and a one month subscription or a DStv Family bouquet for Ksh. 7,650. Pricing for other bouquets is shown as below.

During its 20th anniversary celebrations, MultiChoice indicated its DStv and GOtv brands provided a combined 9,300 hours broadcast for local content that contributed to the visibility of Kenyan and East African culture on-air through investing in prominent local shows and local channels.

“We will continue to promote the growth of the entertainment industry as more Kenyans gain access to the content on DStv which in turn will help build local content producers,” added Mr. Chiruyi.

MultiChoice Kenya accounts for over 40% of the money paid to production houses and the firm has been hailed for paying 50-100 percent more per episode for commissioned shows and films.

As much as most Kenyans will appreciate DStv’s latest strategy, their pricing is still way above from what ordinary Kenyans can afford. In comparison, ZUKU and StarTimes seem to have attractive packages and affordable decoders.
