The asha 309/3090 has nothing exceptionally different from the rest of its siblings and you’d equally have a hard time distinguishing it from other budget devices, however, beyond its reasonable price tag, it enjoys the reputation of Nokia’s hardware. The phone doesn’t have a 3G radio but surprisingly, there’s a built in Wi-Fi adaptor. I remember days when 3G functionality was regarded a luxury in this arena, only found on pricier handsets but times have changed ever since, it makes little sense to have a WiFi enabled phone minus a 3G radio and frankly it’s an isolated case. I’d presume the asha 309/3090 was built to fill up Nokia’s feature phone lineup where  a WiFi adaptor just popped in as a value addition and a perfect marketing strategy, that would be sensible but it’s a scenario you’d not let go without questions. Internet connection is almost becoming a prerequisite on devices entering the market today and focus is shifting to an even a faster connection.

If you’re looking for a Dual Sim handset with decent specs’ then Samsung Galaxy S Duos S7562 is a big contender, it’ll definitely not keep up with the likes of S3 or iPhone 5 in performance but it has something most high-end smart phones lack. We’ve seen several phones with dual sim capability slowly replace traditional feature phones and mid-range devices but none has shown the power heavy gamers or professionals are looking for, it’s a factor most phone companies are using to market these devices as consumers continue to demand for more. Dual sim users are often grouped in two separate categories – those who don’t want to carry two handsets around but must have separate numbers for specific purposes i.e. business and personal, and those who simply have a tight budget and look to have separate providers to optimize spending. Those who fall under the latter category already have several options on their check list but the first lot hardly has enough worth consideration, S Duos is a definite match for this group.

The iPhone 5’s availability status in Kenya may no longer find a place in doubting souls but that doesn’t mean your little savings could afford one, it’s currently the most desired smart phone at least for Apple diehards. Apple products are typically pricier than close rivals and iPhone 5 is no exception; it’s something the company is adamant in maintaining without necessarily setting benchmarks on features in this category. It has a strong showing in theory but we’ve seen better android devices emerge at half its price; in fact, without a huge chunk of its loyal users, the increasing popularity and momentum its rivals enjoy could just trigger the much anticipated iPhone’s memorial and I’ll not hesitate offering my condolences. I like the iPhone 5, I’d be stupid not to, it’s a cool phone as many put it but I wouldn’t spend a huge portion of my hard-earned cash when I can get a better Samsung Galaxy Note II at almost half its price, it’s common sense.

Quest for a larger display on mobile devices is evidently becoming a factor if the current trend is anything to go by; it was a possibility envisioned by analysts sometimes back and now its survival is inevitable gauging from new entrants such as the Galaxy Note 2 N7100. I’ve been a big fan of android software since its infancy when growth was still in contention but that’s not our point of attraction on the galaxy note ii, the phone is gigantic by comparison with some serious specs underneath. A ‘normal’ smart phone is averaged to have a display panel of about 3.5inches though thirst for an even larger panel has forced manufactures to stretch beyond this size to about 4inches; however, Galaxy Note 2 (N7100)’s display is ridiculously 5.5inches wide. It’s not my intention to dispute the awesomeness associated with bigger screens but that’s only the pro side, you’d not be shocked if prices as well are over stretched in this case to compensate manufacturer costs.

You’ll less likely hear smart phone veterans out there talk about Mi-fone, let alone have a device with such a name, but their latest Mi-A400 device is a big contender if specs are anything to go by. I am not a big fan of this company and it’s probably the first device I am reviewing with such a label, but I got to tell you the specs underneath are almost unbelievable with a rock-bottom price tag. Mi-fone Mi-A400 is a dual sim handset, that’s something most Kenyan’s highly consider, it’s a feature you may not find on pricier devices let alone those powered by android OS. In practice, I can have two separate sim cards from different service providers in the country active at the same time on this phone, using their services is of course optional and the most logical method to choose is by price. I can go on and on outlining the benefits of dual sim capability but let’s not forget there are hundreds of phones with the same feature; however, they aren’t as cheap.
