Telkom Kenya unveils Kadunda T-Smart device with 4G capability and running on KaiOS

Telkom Kenya has officially unveiled an affordable Kadunda T-smart phone with 4G capability in the country. The telco seeks to tap into those Kenyans without access to the internet with a more affordable device they can use to utilize 4G internet speeds on its network. Kaduda 4G smart device will cost Ksh. 3,100 in Telkom shops across the country and is based on the KaiOs operating system which has most popular applications such as WhatsApp, Facebook, Twitter, YouTube, Google Maps and more apps can be downloaded from the KaiOS App Store

Speaking on the launch, Telkom Kenya’s consumer Managing Director Mr Steve Okeyo said the company was trying to solve the need for everyone to have access to the internet for various reasons including working, entertainment, small organizations’ as well as for learning. The MD further stated how the current situation had led to a big explosion worldwide with everyone rushing to digitize all services.

The launch comes a few months after JTL unveiled a similar offering dubbed Faiba 4G Wonder phone which is also based on KaiOS. The operating system was unveiled as an alternative offering to feature devices that costs a fraction of those running on android and iOS. Safaricom recently partnered with Google to unveil an affordable 4G device that would only cost subscribers Ksh.20 a day dubbed Neo Ray Go edition.

KaiOS has a lot of features that you would normally expect on android or iOS and just recently, Google included a ton of features on the platform the Lens feature which allows users to translate text in a different language just by pointing their cameras on it.
