And so in a surprise twist, the Education cabinet secretary Dr Fred Okengo Matiangi has decided to make an early announcement of the 2016 KCPE exams. The move aims at curbing exams cheats especially after previous national exams were marred with irregularities that saw some students fail to receive their exam results. The process was also hailed by the Cabinet secretary of internal security Nkaissery as well as KNUT secretary general Wilson Sossion and KNEC chairman George Magoha.

During the announcement, Dr Fred Okengo Matiangi hailed the efforts taken by all organs to ensure credible results for the 2016 candidates. Form one selection will start immediately and will see the whole process finalised by 9th December 2016.

The highest candidate in 2016 KCPE scored 436 marks which reflects a drop of 31 percent compared to the year 2015 for the top scores. And in the same results, the top special needs candidate scored a total of 421 marks. Surprisingly none of the candidates who sat for the exams will have his/her exams cancelled. Some mobile devices were confisticated during the exam period however; after analysis, information found on them didn’t warrant cancellation.

  • On your mobile phone, compose a new text message with (INDEX NO) and sent the message to 22252
  • Example of a text message (5012345003)
  • You will receive a response from KNEC with performance of the candidate bearing the index number.
