Budget centric Xiaomi Redmi 10A now available in Kenya at Sh12,899, packs a 5000mAh battery

Xiaomi’s “A” series devices have been in existence for the longest time we can remember, they’ve been associated with decent number of features while maintaining a budget portfolio. This is no different to the recently unveiled Xiaomi Redmi 10A which is now officially available in Kenya to fans as well as people looking for something in that direction.

I remember a while back when the Redmi 7A was something I could easily advise anyone with a tiny budget to get, it was because of a reasonable combination of features while sticking its gut to an affordable price tag. Fast forward to 2022, the recently announced Xiaomi Redmi 10A improves even further on areas that needed to align itself with post-covid error, a big battery and somewhat better processor to make its case.

And while there’s actually no proven benefits of onboarding the Xiaomi’s ecosystem, the company is adamant, the recently announced Redmi 10A was the way forward for those who might be interested in that sort of thing. The device has some interesting features too besides the impressive large capacity battery under the hood.

Consumers will have three variants with different amount of RAM to choose from

  • 2GB + 32GB at Ksh. 12,899/-
  • 3GB + 64GBS at Ksh.14,499/-

How to verify your IEBC voter registration details such as polling station online

It’s just a few weeks now to our general elections which are slated for August 9th this year, and the Independent Electoral Commission (IEBC) has come up with a nifty way to allow Kenyans verify and confirm their voter registration details online. Instead of queueing at various polling centers, Kenyans can now easily check their details at the comfort of their homes.

Using text message option

  • On your mobile phone, compose a new text message with your Identification details (National ID or Passport)
  • Example “22222222” and send it to “70000”
  • You’ll receive a response with your details

Lipa na M-PESA service will no longer show contact details of subscribers to curb fraud

Safaricom’s Lipa na M-MPESA service has undoubtedly revolutionized the way Kenyans make transactions for various services and goods. With a tap of a button, you can easily pay for your utility bills such as electricity, internet service or even book for air tickets. But with all the pros, MPESA has increasingly come under scrutiny for exposing personal details of subscribers such as contact details that have often landed in the hands of fraudsters. This has remained a concern to Safaricom for the longest time, at least until now.

Starting at the end of June, the telco has confirmed that it’ll start redacting some of the information shared with vendors in a bid to protect personal details of users. Some vendors including MPESA operators have been accused of trading this information with advertisers as well as fraudsters, who proceed to contact them with their various unsolicited intentions.

How Safaricom plans to protect personal details of subscribers on Lipa na M-PESA service

According to the telco, part of the information previously shared with vendors will now be redacted to effectively protect them against fraud. Instead of displaying the full names of users, only the first name will be displayed alongside a redacted phone number. It’s a clever way that has been in use for a long side by other financial institutions such as banks.

Major Banks in the country do not share all the details of customer data such as their account numbers whenever they pay using cards. Safaricom is keen on adopting the same format to conform with the data protection act enacted in 2019 to protect Kenyan’s privacy.

Example of information that will be displayed when paying via Lipa na MPESA

While in the past full details of the subscriber were shared whenever someone paid using Lipa na MPESA, only the first name will be passed along and a redacted phone number of the subscriber making the transaction.  Example; if someone named Jane Doe with a phone number +254720000000 makes a payment, the only data that will be passed along is [Jane, +2547XXXXX000].

How To Boost Your Startup With Video: 5 Powerful Tactics

Video is the future of business. A staggering 65% of marketers identified video as one of their top-three marketing priorities for 2017, and that number was up from 50% in 2016. With new opportunities and challenges at every turn, more businesses are looking to video as a way to overcome hurdles.

After all, it’s not just another medium; it’s real life. Videos make people feel like they know you better than any other type of content could ever do. There are many ways to make money in the startup world. There are many ways to find customers, but it’s hard to find one that can be as lucrative as a video marketing campaign. Video’s combination of an aggressive focus on your market and reaching the right audience is the best way to reach people in a new way while building momentum for your brand before your product exists.

Video is huge in today’s market when it comes to social media content and viral hits. Therefore, you must ensure you leverage this advantage wherever possible. Video marketing is big today, which means it is definitely a strategy your business should be using. Now that you’re preparing to jump into video marketing, here are five tactics you should follow to make sure you get the most out of your video content.

  1. Start with showing your company values

Your values will frame everything that follows in the rest of your marketing campaign, so this is where you must look forward to starting. Make a video introducing your company, but keep it simple and to the point.

Show your values by talking directly to the camera about what makes your company tick. This might be a personal message from the founder or the CEO. Show some of your office cultures. Explain why you believe in what you do and what it looks like when you put those core values into practice. Make this video short and sweet, less than two minutes long, and make it personal.

  1. Show your company off

This is where you’ll want to start if you’re just ramping up and haven’t got a lot of traction yet. You have a great idea, but no one knows about your company yet. You’ll need to start with social media to appear in public. Create a video pared down to show your company’s logo and the simple phrase that lets people know what you do. You can also showcase some products or any other form of collateral to help people understand what you do and why they should pay attention to you. It’s ideal to include links to your website and social media profiles in the video so that it’s easy for visitors to stay updated.

  1. Showcase your product offering

If you have a product or set of products ready to promote, create a product video that showcases the benefits of that product. The goal is to show your customers why they should buy your particular product over the hundreds or thousands available in the market.

Again, focus on what makes you different and better than everyone else. Talk directly to your customers in this video and try to tell a story that relates to them. Tie the products into your company values and showcase the people using the products. You can use this video as a lead generation tool to give people an incentive to go to your website or sign up for your email list.

  1. Showcase your USP

If you have a unique selling proposition (USP) that sets you apart from your competitors, make a video to demonstrate it. Remember, videos are more engaging than text-based pitches, and they’re much easier to share on social media.

We suggest making this video short, no longer than ten minutes long. Try targeting your focus market and explaining how your product or service will benefit them. Be sure to focus on how your targets see the value in what you offer and why they should buy from you over the competition. It doesn’t have to be a directly competing product. In fact, it might be better to demonstrate how your product or service benefits people outside the market as well.

  1. Get your community on board

Demonstrate the power of your community’s involvement in marketing. You can do this in various ways, many of which are outlined in this article. You simply need to get your community to help promote your video on social media. That part is pretty easy to do with a video.

It’s all about showing the value of what you have been doing and why you think that value will sell your product or service to others. The more people who see and share your video, the higher the likelihood that they’ll want to buy from you over your competitors. It’s the best way to show that you’re not just a one-hit-wonder and that more people will want to buy products from you in the future.

Getting your company’s name out there is one of the most important things you can do to make sure that you are getting the word out about your brand in a way that will be heard. Video marketing is one of the best ways to do this because you can use it to introduce each element of what your business does and as a way to show off your products.

All business owners should consider video marketing for their businesses and make sure they are using it for every element of their company. If you are just starting with video marketing, these five tactics will help get you started in a positive direction toward reaching new customers and growing your business.

How to register your Safaricom Sim Card online without having to visit Safaricom shops

Safaricom has opened its online portal to allow subscribers unable to visit its shops to register their Sim cards online. This follows days of long queues witnessed at various Safaricom shops for people looking to beat the set deadline of SIM card registrations. Every Kenyan is expected to register their Sim cards with their respective service provider – an effort initiated by the Communications Authority (CA) to rid roque users involved in fraud and criminal activities from easily accessing a mobile phone SIM card.

Kenyans have been upbeat by the short notice given by the Authority, with many not clearly understanding whom the directive was targeting. As of now, you cannot purchase a SIM card in the country without at least having your details taken for registration; however, many criminals had found loopholes in the exercise with some using fake documents or even stolen documents to register their SIM cards. Telco’s such as Safaricom had devised a way to restrict SIM registrations by initiating a verification message sent to existing SIM card before another registration is accepted.

While the exercise has been extended from the initial set deadline of 15th April 2022 by further 6 months until October 15th 2022, Safaricom subscribers are now in luck after the mobile operator opened an online portal that will accept registrations from Kenyans who are unable to make it to their shops. The process is straightforward with below steps required to complete.

Halal Pesa, everything you need to know about Safaricom’s Shariah compliant product

Kenyans have become accustomed to Safaricom’s Fuliza product to the extend its even hard to imagine those days when it didn’t exist. Mobile money services in Kenya have had their share of both criticism as well as credit, there’s so much evil and good associated with them in equal measure. With all these mixed reactions, one thing remains true, mobile money-based services have revolutionized how Kenyans transact daily. Halal Pesa is Safaricom’s response to introduce a product that is specifically designed to accommodate our Muslim brothers and sisters.

Unlike traditional overdraft facilities which attract all sorts of additional charges, Halal Pesa is designed to meet the requirements of Shariah but at the same time remain sustainable to both Safaricom and the Gulf African Bank which is its main partner on the service. The product is expected to earn Safaricom and the Gulf African Bank five percent in profit without attracting additional costs on the subscriber.

How Halal Pesa works

Just like the likes of Fuliza and M-Shwari, Safaricom subscribers with an MPESA account can easily sign-up for the service and stand to receive up to Ksh20,000, which is paid back with an additional 5 percent. Customers will then have to pay back within a span of 30 days. I’ts designed to be in line with other Islamic financial products which do not accrue interest but instead levy a margin or profit. This makes Halal Pesa more competitive than similar MPESA products such as M-Shwari loans which is a partnership between NCBA Bank and Safaricom. Current M-Shwari charges include a fee of 7.5 percent and 1.5 percent excise duty, although M-Shwari also allows clients to save money while Halal Pesa specializes on financing.

How to Access Halal Pesa credit facility

If you already are an MPESA user, then subscribing to the service should be a no-brainer. The service is available mini–App. Safaricom subscribers will initially be provided with a personalized facility limit based on their M-Pesa usage. And just like M-shwari and KCB-MPESA, the limit can be increased based on a customer’s usage of Halal Pesa. Halal Pesa can be accessed both as Mini App under the “Grow” option on the M-PESA Super App and by dialling *334# under “Loans and Savings”.
