Samsung Galaxy Trend S7560 Android Phone Review

The Galaxy trend offers nothing new for those who’ve had a Galaxy device before, but it has an almost rock-bottom price tag you’d struggle to ignore. The phone was recently launched for the Asian market with little word on its availability to other regions; except that we can now confirm its availability in Safaricom retail stores for the Kenyan consumers. The Galaxy Trend S7560 has the basic functionalities you’d expect in a mid-range smart phone; but it’s not the best device within that price range, close rivals like the feature-rich Alcatel One Touch Star go hand-in-hand with its pricier siblings like the Galaxy S3 Mini featuring a double core processor and an AMOLED display panel. There isn’t much difference between Trend S7560 and its older sibling – Galaxy S Duos except for the Dual SIM feature, it has the same plastic casing that’s typical on most Samsung devices including its flagship smart phones.

Samsung Galaxy Trend S7560’s screen isn’t AMOLED as we’d hoped, neither it IPS which who’d have been a slight redemption; it comes with a traditional TFT panel – meaning colors wouldn’t be as vibrant; black colors appears greyish due to the backlighting. But as a decent reprieve, it has the same screen resolution (WVGA 800×480) you’d get on the genre’s favorites. The Alcatel One Touch Star has an AMOLED display which reproduces vibrant colors as well as deep blacks while most LG handsets such as the L7 utilizes the IPS technology which is slightly better than TFT and both phones belong to the same price group. Icons and small text still looks decent at that resolution, but it’s no match to pricier rivals. The front panel is largely occupied by its 4inch screen with exceptions to Samsung’s typical logo at the top, two capacitive and one physical button at its bottom. The front panel is also home to a VGA camera for video calls on applications such as Skype and facebook while the back-panel houses its 5Megapixel primary snapper and an LED flash.

Underneath is a 1GHz processor which isn’t bad considering everything else but we’d hoped for a double core chip. For 768MB of RAM apps will still run smoothly considering most devices within its category have lesser memory (512MB to be specific). The Galaxy Trend S7560 runs on Google’s android operating system version 4.0.4 Ice Cream Sandwich and has Samsung’s messaging – Ch@tON app installed.
