Tecno unveils the Spark 5 and Spark 5 Air Smartphones running on android 10

Tecno has officially unwrapped its latest smartphones with stunningly huge display panels and android 10 Go edition in Ghana, same models are expected to launch soon here in Kenya. While everything else looks at par with most mid-tier devices, what’s turning heads is the Tecno Spark 5 Air’s 7-inches display panel that officially intrudes into the tablet arena. Up until now, major smartphone phone manufacturers such as Samsung and Apple have drawn boundaries on how far they’re willing to stretch their device’s display panels without having to slap the “Tab” or “Tablet” name on it.

Tecno is not a well-known brand especially outside Africa, but they sure do want to be recognized when it comes to doing things extra-ordinarily. While the Tecno Spark 5 has a seemingly 6.6 inch panel that maintains the new normal range for a smartphone screen especially after opting for a pinch-hole camera to remove extra distractions on the front panel, it’s larger sibling the Tecno Spark 5 Air did things a little different with a water drop notch instead going all the way to 7 inch mark.

The Tecno Spark 5 and Spark 5 Air are similar in many ways

Even though physically these two devices are different, they do share quite a bit. Both the Tecno Spark 5 and Tecno Spark 5 Air comes with a 2GB RAM and 32GB internal storage which of course can be extended with an external MicroSD card. With 2GB RAM and 32GB storage, it’s clear the company wasn’t looking to attract power users and it’ll be interesting to see how most games perform with these meagre specs. In addition, they’ll both ship with android 10 onboard, same 8Megapixel selfie camera on the front, dual SIM capability and of course feature a 3.5mm headphone jack – something we now yearn for but used to be a prerequisite in the days of yore. Both of them also come with a massive 5000mAh battery.

Differences between the Tecno Spark 5 and Tecno Spark 5 Air

The main difference between these two devices rests on their choice of display sizes. While the Spark 5 comes with a near normal 6.6 panel with a pinch-hole selfie camera, the later embraces an even massive 7-inch panel with a water-drop camera.

Secondly, even though both phones have the same camera technology on the front, the Tecno Spark 5 Air has a larger primary camera setup with a combination of 13 MP main shooter, 2 MP macro and a 2 MP depth sensor. On its part, the Tecno Spark 5 comes with a single 13Megapixels shooter instead.

Even though both models come with android 10 out of the box, the larger Spark 5 opts for the android Go edition which is touted to get timely security patches from Google.

We shall be updating the price of both Tecno Spark 5’s in Kenya once it officially launches in the country
