Soon after the S4 was announced, speculations for a cheaper version were high on our nerves given Samsung’s typical surprises, it’s like expecting fire where there’s smoke which’s kind of obvious – and here we are analyzing the Mini version of S4. The galaxy s4 Mini I9190 and I9192 Mini Duos are expectedly cheaper, smaller and poses hardware specs similar to other mid-range devices, you’d not be mistaken to think the phone maker was curious to offer the same taste of its high-profile device but at a pocket friendly price and less oomph. Down the lane of history, it would be inconsiderate not to mention the S3 and S3 Mini that surfaced soon after, it was a typical gesture of what’s coming up and in this case, the S4 Mini. Despite the handset having less premium specs compared to its flagship siblings, it’s no slouch in comparison to the S4’s core features.
Of course we expected compromises here and there without necessarily watering down the look and feel of its flagship sibling, the screen resolution is understandably lower and an 8.0 megapixels primary snapper isn’t as sensitive as that of S4’s 13 megapixels. However, premium features such as an inbuilt TV remote control found on the S4 were retained plus some new pleasant additions especially on the I9192 version. There are two versions of the S4 mini – I9190 which has a single sim card slot and I9192 duos that has double sim slots. S4 I9192 mini brings the goodness of having double sim cards on the same handset – its ideal for travelers going to other countries, persons who would prefer to keep both work and personal phone lines tidily discrete and economically hard-pressed nerds that would love taking advantage of offers and promos of two different operators on the same device. As expected, the S4 mini is little bit shorter, thicker and wider in comparison but clearly cut from the same sloth.
The S4 mini has a curved perimeter, metallic rim and a rectangular home button just like its flagship sibling and comes in both black and white versions. The phone’s screen isn’t as premium but it has an edge over most of its close rivals; at 960×540 pixels which’s smaller to S4’s 1920×1080, texts and images still look sharp and crisp consecutively. Both S4’s support the same color gamut and OLED screen technology, the location and shape of the camera is identical despite posing different sensors. The device comes with android 4.2.2 Jelly Bean installed and importantly, the same TouchWiz layer underneath. TouchWiz comes with a dozen of functionalities such as a one-touch system settings in the notifications pull down and options like Air View. Unlike the super-powered octa-core processor on the premium S4, S4 mini is powered by a lesser powerful but convenient 1.7GHz dual-core processor.
