Nokia was undoubtedly once a popular brand in the phone industry with iconic devices that relatively measured well against competition in various segments. It may have measured favorably in the days of yore but the company has officially made its come back to the Kenyan market with a once iconic Nokia 3310 handset. The device which is retailing locally at Ksh5,299 embodies similarities with its once popular namesake leveraging on its once recognized brand in the industry.
HMD global – the company behind the Nokia brand just unveiled several devices in Kenya. Nokia has had a smooth run in the local markets even when sales were dwindling worldwide with feature phones that were deemed affordable by Kenyans.
“Nokia has a long history of being in Kenya. The products we are bringing now, Nokia on android devices are perfect for the market,” said Patrick Henchie, head of product and operations sub-Saharan Africa for HMD. The range of smartphones joins the return of the Nokia 3310 in Kenya.
The classic Nokia 3310 which has been relaunched with a modern touch on design by blending the ‘old’ with ‘new’ will surely go down in memory lane as a once desired handset in the earliest days of phone industry. HMD is said to have partnered with other tech giants Google, Nokia and Foxconn in the manufacture of the handset. Amongst its iconic features, the Nokia 3310 2017 model boasts a longer 22- hour talk-time and a Month standby.
