Alcatel One Touch T’Pop Priced at Ksh6000 by Major Carriers in Kenya

Budget android smart phone’s segment is well catered for, you’d say; but that doesn’t mean operators can’t stretch further their offerings to stand a chance in the pages of movers. I’d say Safaricom and Orange have it all figured out; they’ve unleashed a competitive offer of the popular Alcatel One Touch T’Pop android smart phone – each with its own tag and benefits. Whether the average price of around Ksh6000 is justified – is beyond our scope, but one thing is certain; it’s the kind of tag you’d hope for on most budget smart phones here in Kenya. I remember those days when anyone who is anybody easily settled for the almost now phased out Huawei ideos u8150 as their preferred budget smart phone – it was affordable and above all had android installed.

Alcatel One Touch T’Pop Review

The Alcatel One Touch T’Pop is no different from most android devices within its genre, it has the price tag as its strong-hold and possibly a large display as an effective redemption to features you’d only expect on premium rivals. I’ve had similar handsets including the likes of Ideos; a 3.5inch display is not something you’d get on a device with that price. The phone isn’t uniquely designed, but that doesn’t mean it won’t impress many, the front panel is almost covered by a 3.5 inch tft panel except for Alcatel’s typical logo at the top and three capacitive buttons at its bottom. The screen’s touch input is as responsive as most capacitive touch phones of this caliber, but we found the 320×480 resolution a bit awkward. For an effective 165 pixels per inch (ppi) panel, small text won’t look as sharp as premium rivals and browsing through your photo gallery is a major turn-off especially if you’ve owned the likes of S4 at some point.

At the back is a 2.0 Megapixels camera, we’d hoped for a bigger snapper but I guess that’s what you get for 6k and no secondary camera for video calls. You’ll still snap decent images in broad day light of your mates and friends, but it’s no match to bigger snappers on premium rivals. Underneath is a 1GHz processor, same power we’d anticipated, it’s faster than that of slightly pricier budget droids like the Galaxy Ace but RAM is well within its category (256MB to be specific). Safaricom is offering the single SIM version while Orange Kenya has the Dual-SIM version
