Samsung 18190 Galaxy S3 Mini Review

We can’t afford to contest the popularity Samsung Galaxy S3 has enjoyed from day one of its release and the jolts it has caused to its main rival iPhone 5; the introduction of a smaller version is therefore a more interesting agenda than previously thought. Galaxy S3 has some serious specs that include a 4.8inch display and a snappier 1.4 GHz Quad-core processor that can handle just about any app out there. Of course, we expected reduced specs in the smaller galaxy s3 but with a friendly price tag; its screen is 0.8inches smaller (4.0inch to be precise) with a watered down but decent 800×480 screen resolution that’s still sharper than most of its competitors. Samsung 18190 Galaxy S3’s screen utilizes Super AMOLED capacitive technology just like its bigger sibling, that’s more responsive compared to resistive panels and can achieve vibrant colors such as deeper blacks than conventional TFT technology; literally, it’s a smaller Galaxy S3 in areas that count.

Under the hood is a 1 GHz Dual-core processor that’s way below its bigger sibling’s 1.4 GHz horse power, though enough to rate favorably among its closest competitors. We don’t expect any noticeable lags as other devices with the same horse power didn’t disappoint, it may however groan at some point while executing demanding apps; whether you’ll reach at this point, we highly doubt. Design is an area the South Korean giant has failed to excel and we don’t expect miracles on Samsung 18190 Galaxy S3 Mini, its mostly plastic, but still looks pleasant. There’s a 5MP camera at its back down from 8MP enclosed in the larger Galaxy S3, and again we can’t really complain given the price tag. As much as Galaxy S3 Mini won’t achieve detailed images and videos as its bigger sibling, images and videos snapped with it are not as disappointing. Samsung 18190 Galaxy S3 Mini is smaller and has varying specs but completely assumes the design of its bigger sibling, you could mistake for the other at a reasonable distant.
Samsung 18190 Galaxy S3 Mini is expected to retail in Kenya from Ksh.30,000, almost half the price of Galaxy S3 and it could even appeal more. The front panel is mostly occupied by a 4.0inch screen except for the large home button that’s typical to Samsung’s devices; it has LED flash that’s necessary when snapping those pictures in darker conditions.  Galaxy S3 Mini runs on Android v4.1 Jelly Bean which’s currently the latest from Google, up from v4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich found on the larger S3. It comes in 8GB or 16GB internal storage variants that you can beef up with an external MicroSD card of up to 32GB. You’ll need a Mini Sim-card, which’s not something new for iPhone users.
