Samsung Galaxy S9 Details and Availability in Kenya

Once again, it’s that time of the year when regular up-graders of Samsung’s flagship line get to see what the manufacturer has created for them. In an event held at the world mobile congress; the galaxy line manufacturer took off wraps on their latest flagship that’s expected to go one on one with other flagships in the year 2018. As expected, this marks just a year after the galaxy s8 and s8 plus models were announced. Samsung has finally updated it’s flagship line with newer Samsung galaxy s9 and S9 plus.

Samsung galaxy s8 kicked off a bezel-less design that saw devices with an almost only display screen front released last year and the S9 alongside S9 plus are no different. the main improvements come at places that matter most – improved camera, productivity applications and of course more. Looking at last year’s S8 and S8 plus devices, the design had more similarities besides the expected screen size. However this year’s trend stretches the differences to the inside as well. The smaller Galaxy S9 retains the same screen size we saw on last year’s S8 – a 5.8 inch AMOLED QHD display and a single rear facing Camera. On the other hand, the new Galaxy S9 is equipped with a slightly larger 6.2 inch AMOLED QHD plus screen and a dual camera setup.

Internally, a number of differences are noted; While both phones are powered by the Snapdragon 845 processor (Exynos 9810 for international models), the Galaxy S9 has 4GB RAM and 64GB (or more) of built-in storage. For power users, the larger Galaxy S9 plus presents a sweet spot. Powered by 6GB of RAM and 64GB (or more) of storage. However no bump in battery juice this year sorry. The S9 will have a 3000mAh battery while the larger S9+ gets a 3500mAh battery. Oh, and both are running Android 8.0 Oreo out of the box.

Samsung Galaxy S9 Availability in Kenya;

For Kenyan consumers, both the S9 and S9 plus are expected towards the end of March. I expect pre-orders to go live for most Kenyan retailers including Safaricom and Airtel. However, if you can’t wait that long, there’s always solace from online retailers such as eBay and Amazon.

Samsung Galaxy S9 price in Kenya;

For the unlocked versions; we expected the price to start from USD720 (roughly Kenyan Shiillings 75,600) for the smaller S9 and USD840 (about Kenya shillings 88,200) for the S9 plus model
