TECNO Phantom 6 Review, Price and how to get it in Kenya

A good fight – that’s what I’d summarize on my personal view regarding Tecno mobile’s performance in Kenya. The phone maker has had its fair share of misfortunes as well as pretty amazing reception on the local market. From the initial tecno phone with minimal specs to the latest flagship with what I’d call somehow heavyweight enclosures; but is it enough in modern days? I decided to pick one of the Phantom 6 from a local online retail shop for Kshs. 24,300 (USD 240) and did my own test drive. It’s a good phone – I’d hardly dispute, but in modern times, there are countless devices that are just as good or even better. For the sake of fairness, I’ll approach the TECNO Phantom 6 with an open mind in regards to pricing, support and of course specs.

  • Design Overview

Tecno Phantom 6 has one of the best design language we’ve seen in comparison to similarly priced devices. It features a slim bezel measuring an amazing 6.5mm height with dual back cameras and what Tecno calls aerospace grade aluminum alloy metal that’s been further reinforced through nano molding technology. Now, if that’s just talking big, it’s hard to tell, but I like its design. To achieve such slimmer design, the phone maker must have put in it’s all. It might not be the slimmest design I’ve seen so far, but here is something I could work with.

  • Camera and Photography

Dual cameras on the back seemed like the way to go, but that doesn’t always mean top notch results. Taking photos on this device is pleasant, but minimally approaches current heavyweight from galaxy range and HTC 10. Again here I’ll forgive considering the price. At best, it’s what you’d get at that price. Assuming prices remain the same at Kshs 24,300 in Kenya, you’d spend twice as much or even more on the competition. Good photos can be taken in daylight, but the device suffers most in low light environments. The two back cameras are from reputable vendors – Samsung and Sony, but to work flawlessly, software optimization is a prerequisite, and Tecno doesn’t do better in this segment as well.

  • Display Panel

A lot went in to achieve vivid colors. Tecno settled on an AMOLED FHD screen for the display panel. It has well saturated colors and blacks are really black – this is what I’d expect from an AMOLED Screen and the Phantom 6 doesn’t disappoint. However, there are tons of devices with even more and better AMOLED screen resolution in ranges of 2k and 4k; though I’d still appreciate Full HD.

  • Performance and Storage

With a 2.4 GHz octa-core processor and 3GB RAM, the Tecno Phantom 6 is not a beast but does what it’s supposed to do seamlessly. You’ll also get 32GB worth of internal storage that’s expandable to 128GB. This device also has s dual sim standby functionality – something that’s held dear in this parts of the world.

  • Conclusion

For the price, Tecno Phantom 6 is a device worth checking out. USB type C was well thought and I couldn’t have liked the embedded biometric functionalities any further.

Tecno Phantom 6 Main Specifications;

  • Screen Size: 5.5 Inch Full HD (1920X1080) AMOLED Touchscreen

  1. I would say it’s a fair review, tecno never has good support on software updates. anyway it’s priced low compared to Samsung flagships so I wouldn’t mind.
