Pesapal Revolutionizes Tipping with Digital Solution on POS Devices

In a move aimed at adapting to the evolving segment of cashless transactions in East Africa, Pesapal, a leading player in payments and business tools for Africa, has introduced a groundbreaking feature allowing customers to add tips directly on its POS (Point of Sale) devices.

This innovative feature, accessible on all Pesapal Sabi POS terminals, seeks to enhance the convenience of tipping in an era where digital payments are on the rise across the region. Fred Mwangima, Technical Director at Pesapal, highlighted the company’s commitment to evolving alongside cashless transactions by providing a seamless way for customers to express appreciation for excellent service.

Africa’s domestic e-payments market is expected to witness substantial growth, with revenues projected to increase by approximately 20% per year, reaching around $40 billion by 2025, according to the McKinsey Global Payment Map. The introduction of digital tipping aligns with the surge in digital payments, offering customers a hassle-free method to include tips in their total bill amount directly on the POS machine.

Agosta Liko, CEO of Pesapal Group, emphasized the significance of adapting to post-COVID dynamics, where consumers increasingly prefer cashless transactions. He sees digital tipping not only as a convenient solution but also as a powerful incentive for service attendants to deliver exceptional service.

This new feature simplifies the checkout process for both merchants and customers. When ready to pay, the POS displays the total amount due, presenting options for adding a tip. Customers can choose from preset tip percentages or enter a custom amount, which is then seamlessly added to the total bill, completing the transaction. The tipped amount is then directly transferred to the customer’s mobile wallet.

Merchants across various industries, including hospitality, retail, service, entertainment, healthcare, and fuel stations, have embraced digital technology in recent years. The introduction of digital tipping by Pesapal is seen as an extension of the ongoing effort to digitize and enhance the overall customer experience in these industries.

For merchants already equipped with Pesapal terminals, activating this feature is a straightforward process, requiring a simple software update. As Pesapal continues to innovate, this move reinforces their commitment to providing cutting-edge solutions that cater to the evolving needs of businesses and customers in the digital era.
