As MultiChoice prepares to relaunch its popular streaming platform, Showmax, in 2023; it is undergoing significant transformations. Primarily among these developments: the elimination of the previously introduced Showmax Pro package-a major change announced in July 2020.
Initially introduced as a comprehensive package, Showmax Pro offered an extensive array of entertainment content: music channels; news updates–and live sports streaming from SuperSport. Yet now–with its impending relaunch imminent—Showmax plans to implement strategic transformations.
Showmax’s sports offering undergoes a pivotal shift: it now exclusively focuses on the English Premier League, Africa’s most popular football league—this strategic decision underscores Showmax’s commitment to provide its subscribers with top-tier football content.
In the planned transition, Showmax Pro—existing in its current form—is set for a phased-out by November 30, 2023: to facilitate this process further; from October 1 of that same year. However, subscriptions for Showmax Pro will no longer be available at this time. Beyond October 30th, we assure customers with auto-renewal subscriptions there will be no charges; moreover—they shall continue accessing our content until their existing subscription period concludes completely.
Showmax eagerly ensures the continuous enjoyment of beloved sports for its loyal Showmax Pro customers. In specific markets, existing subscribers to Showmax Pro receive an exclusive offer: access to a unique DStv Stream and Showmax bundle deal. This exciting bundle provides an extended array of benefits – it broadens their live sport selection with SuperSport, introduces them to various other live channels, and much more.
Showmax declares, “Existing Showmax Pro subscribers in other sub-Saharan African countries will receive an offer: a DStv Stream package–at identical pricing to their current Showmax Pro subscription.” This new package unlocks access to a rich variety of live sports content; notably featured are the Premier League, LaLiga and Serie A – with additional highlights such as NBA, NFL and UFC available via the DStv Stream app. Furthermore; over 115 live channels remain streamable for these subscribers— they can also tap into the full DStv video-on-demand library before continuing their entertainment journey through Showmax’s catalogues.
DStv Stream packages, including South Africa; Kenya: Nigeria—Botswana and Namibia to Ghana–Uganda through Tanzania–are available in ten African markets. These comprise Zambia as well as Zimbabwe.
Showmax acknowledges country-to-country variations in pricing and specific offerings, attributing these differences to content line-up disparities, local conditions and currency fluctuations. As an illustration: The South African Showmax Pro package provides access to Champions League football; however—due to licensing agreements—this particular content may not be available in other regions. South African subscribers can anticipate a DStv Compact Plus Stream package identical to what Showmax Pro customers accessed, which incorporates events such as the Champions League.
Showmax, preparing for its relaunch, aims to provide a more tailored and enriched experience for subscribers–particularly sports enthusiasts–across various African markets: this is their strategy. Promising an era of entertainment; they exclusively focus on the English Premier League – introducing DStv Stream packages as part of the offering to Showmax users.
