LG Optimus L5 E610 Smart Phone Review

LG Optimus L5 E610 may not have the best hardware in its genre but packs the latest version of Android Ice Cream Sandwich right from the box. It has an excellent design with average processing capability translating to an affordable price tag. We’ve seen devices housing superior hardware shipped with a previous version of Android OS such as Gingerbread and Froyo; in most cases, there’re scheduled upgrades to a newer version though such upgrades are not always guaranteed. It’s therefore very considerate for LG to load ICS on L5 E610 right from the factory. LG Optimus L5 E610 is slated to cost less than most devices with similar features; however, some notable compromises were enforced to achieve the same. It has an underpowered 800MHz processor instead of a 1GHz found on its peers such as Optimus L7 P700 and a low 320×480 pixels screen resolution. Whether a device is stylish or not, it’s up to you as an individual; however, LG Optimus L5 E610 surpassed our benchmarks with the coolest design in its category.

For a device with a modest 800MHz processor running on Android Ice Cream Sandwich, don’t expect a miracle to execute apps as smooth as more expensive counterparts with double or more core processors such as Sony Xperia U and its sibling Optimus 4X HD P880. The front of LG Optimus L5 E610 is largely taken by a 4.0inch screen surrounded by an amazing white plastic, there’s also a chrome edging effect which’s a little reminiscent of Samsung’s galaxy range. Around the phones back is a 5.0Megapixel camera though an 8.0Megapixels snapper was more appropriate, the phones back is made entirely from plastic with a dimpled texture pattern that you’ll love or hate. The plastic housing doesn’t look cheap neither does it creak when squeezed and felt sturdy enough to escape minor accidental falls without a scratch. There’s a single physical button below the screen that will take you back to the Android’s home screen and flanking it are a couple of capacitive buttons that light up on touch and dim out when not in use.
At 320×480 pixels screen resolution, text and images don’t look as sharp as more expensive phones, pixels density is further stretched by a large 4.0inch screen, so expect lots of scrolling here and there while viewing web pages. LG Optimus L5 E610’s main stronghold is the latest version of Android Ice Cream Sandwich which’s loaded from the factory, you’d experience some lags especially on more demanding apps due to a modest 800MHz processor sitting underneath. Apart from the internal storage, a MicroSD card slot is present meaning you can expand the available memory by up to 32GB. There’s no radio on this handset limiting your music experience to available songs only.
